Valentine’s Day Romantic Dinner

Posted February 11th, 2010 in Serving with Style

As promised I have a great suggestion for you to make a truly romantic dinner at home for Valentine’s Day. You won’t have to spend a fortune or wait in line for a table. Just put on some great music, light the fire and enjoy the company of the person you love. Cherries make a truly fantastic accompaniment to meat. Men like meat so this meal will appeal to your man. Maybe the two of you can cook together if you are so inclined. (Whip up an OFP Cocktail from my recipe collection and enjoy it while you cook). I like these Pork Chops with Cherry Sauce for special occasions because you don’t spend a lot of time on the preparation, but it looks and tastes truly elegant. I usually serve it with roasted red rosemary potatoes and a salad.

The dessert is a fantastic finish. I got this recipe from my sister-in-law, Pam, who has been making it for special occasions for over twenty years. She got the recipe from a cookbook that she thinks is called “Maddie Hader” but she doesn’t have it anymore because it was destroyed in a house fire many years ago. It has become a family tradition for them and I can see why. It is made with good bittersweet chocolate paired with tart cherries. It’s dense and moist at the same time and served with fresh whipped cream spiked with Cherry Kirsch. It is the perfect finish enjoyed with a small glass of port by the fire….
