This summer a group of us decided to celebrate the birthdays of my two friends, Christy and Dana with an experience instead of our traditional party and gifts. This was a departure because we have been celebrating our birthdays together for years and we really look forward to the unique gifts we choose for each other. We decided at this stage of our lives we all have plenty of “stuff” and the best gift we could give each other was the gift of a shared experience. Christy chose Local Roots Food Tours in Sacramento where we live.
It was a blast and not only did the guide, Lisa, show us some very cool out of the way places to eat right in our own town, but we learned alot about history and architecture as well. It was a walking tour which really enhanced the flavor of the city as well. We sampled a high end taco from a restaurant that specializes in food from sustainable farms, we learned to make chocolate pasta and ate some delicious albondigas soup at a restaurant using the same menu and recipes since the fifties. A highlight was the fact that a local news crew followed us and interviewed ME! I was a bit of a local celebrity for a minute. Since it was a slow news weekend they played this clip ALOT!
One of the businesses we visited was a local bakery that is getting alot of press called Sugar and Spice. The owner of the business highlighted some of her best work and we got to sample a lovely cream puff. But in the case I saw something that hit me as a great idea for my blog-Blueberry Pancake Cupcakes with Maple Buttercream Frosting. I love blueberry pancakes and I can’t tell you how many times I am told by our Oregon Fruit customers that Blueberry Pancakes are a Sunday tradition at their house and most of these cooks are MEN!
I shared some of these cupcakes with my friend Shane and he proclaimed them “the best cupcake I ever ate!” He had four.Tags: Blueberry cupcakes, blueberry pancake cupcakes, maple buttercream
